Motorcoach Guidelines

To help you and your travelers enjoy their visit to Nauvoo and Carthage, Illinois, we offer a few suggestions that might assist in dealing with the large crowds and congestion that we often face in this community.

Nauvoo's flower gardens are world famousPlease book your tour with us as soon in the season as you can.

If there is a delay in your arrival, please call us so we can assist in making further arrangements for ticket pick up.

All motorcoaches and multi-passenger tour vehicles coming to the Historic Nauvoo Visitor Center should unload on the west side of the building.

Motorcoaches should be very careful not to violate the "NO BUS PARKING" signs posted by the city of Nauvoo. There are new ones you should be aware of and the violation is quite expensive.

Unloading in front of many historic sites is hazardous and difficult because of the narrow streets.

There are parking lots at the Cultural Hall, at the intersection of Main and Kimball, east of the Sunset by the Mississippi amphitheater, and west of the Historic Nauvoo Visitors Center. Carthage has only one lot which can accommodate motorcoaches for a short time.

Nauvoo is a great experience all year longYour travelers who will be attending Sunset on the Mississippi would be well advised to walk down Parley Street, and we would encourage drivers to leave their motorcoach in the parking lots mentioned above. Parley Street is very congested, especially down by the river. There is no waiting there, and it is very difficult for a motorcoach to turn around.

We strongly encourage tours, if at all possible, not to schedule attendance at performances on the day of your arrival in Nauvoo.

Unless advance arrangements for holding tickets are made, please note that all show tickets must be picked up no later than 2:00 PM the day of the performance. If not, they will be distributed to visitors on our waiting list.

Please instruct your tour groups to be at the show site at least 20 minutes before show time to be seated. Ticket reservations are good until 5 minutes before show time, at which time standby visitors will be seated.

The only person authorized to claim tickets for shows or make changes is the tour director with the Tour Confirmation Number.

Tours inside Visitors Centers and historic homes and shops are conducted by Nauvoo Missionaries. Our tour narrative is quite short to accommodate the crowds.
